Poulain (French for “The Foal”) is a bronze sculpture by Gudmar Olovson, a highly regarded Swedish sculptor recognised for his figurative works and classical inspirations. The sculpture was conceived in 2006 after a client of Olovson entrusted him to create a portrait of their unborn foal. Olovson immediately travelled to the stud farm the moment news of the foal’s birth was confirmed and sculpted him on his first day.
The sculpture portrays a young foal, capturing both innocence and vitality, reflecting Olovson’s focus on naturalism and human emotion. Two casts of this work exist one in the original home of the foal and one in a private Swedish collection.
The Estate have commission the next cast of this work from the original plaster at the original foundry which cast this work in 2006 and it will be completed and available from May 2026 on the 20th anniversary of the first cast. This edition is one of the smallest produced by the artist. The work will be on display in London from June and available for viewing. Get in touch for an early preview.
